History:

Henna has been used for thousands of years in North Africa and Asia as a red dye and as a scent. Mummies were wrapped in henna – dyed cloth in ancient Egypt. In Arabia and India , the leaves have traditionally been used to make a pigment for dying intricate linear patterns or the fingers, palms, hairs, and feet. Henna is mainly used with in Ayurvedic and Unani medicine. Henna leaves are commonly taken as a gargle for sore throats, and as an infusion or decoction for diarrhea and dysentery. The leaves are astringent, prevent hemorrhaging and strongly promote menstrual flow. Applied in the form of a plaster, henna treats fungal infections, acne and boils.

Habitat:

It is a perennial plant, native to North Africa. In India it is cultivated in the Pali, Sojat, Jodhpur and Nagour districts of Rajasthan.

Crop Status:

Henna is cultivated in thousands of acres in Western Rajasthan. Cultivator Natural Products is the largest Organic Certified Henna Producer Company. We are having the total area for henna cultivation is 750 hectares (1,875 acres). The total area is organic certified by ECOCERT International, Germany according to the rules and regulations of USDA NOP, EEC 2092/91, JAS, BIO-SWISS & NPOP. Our Henna production is about 1000 M.T.

Quality Aspect:

In Western Rajasthan number of stress condition are present. Due to these stress conditions Henna produces more secondary metabolites, which are responsible for their colour and medicinal property.
