History:

Stevia has been used to sweeten a native beverage called mate since Pre-Columbian times. However, natural scientist, Antonio Bertoni first recorded its usage by native tribes in 1887. For hundreds of years, people in Paraguay and Brazil have used a natural sweet leaf to sweeten bitter herbal teas including mate. For over 20 years, Japanese consumers have used extracts of this same plant as a safe, natural, non-caloric sweetener. In 1931, in France , two chemists isolated the most prevalent of several compounds that give the Stevia leaf its sweet taste, a pure white crystalline extract they named stevioside. Originally introduced to Japan in 1970 by a consortium of food-product manufacturers, stevioside and other Stevia products quickly caught on. By 1988, Stevia reportedly represented approximately 41% of the market share of potently sweet substances consumed in Japan. Calories are in Stevia are virtually none and the refined Stevia extracts are considered to be non-caloric.

Habitat:

It is cultivated in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat , Maharashtra and Punjab district in India.

Stevia is cultivated in Western Rajasthan. Cultivator Natural Products is the Organic Certified Stevia Producer Company. We are having the total area for Stevia cultivation is about 100 hectares (250 acres). The total area is organic certified by ECOCERT International, Germany according to the rules and regulations of USDA NOP, EEC 2092/91, JAS, BIO-SWISS & NPOP. Our Stevia production is about 1500 M.T.

In Western Rajasthan number of stress condition are present. Due to these stress conditions Senna produces more secondary metabolites known as sennoside, this sennoside is best is the quality an well as in quantity.
